Concept-Building Question Format

Concept-building questions are structured as follows:

Question appears in large black font.

Notes/comments appear in normal-sized blue font. These are provided for various reasons, such as the following:

  • to explain the purpose or significance of the question

  • to anticipate student responses to the question

  • to direct instructors to supplemental resources

It is understood that classroom discussions are not entirely predictable; with this in mind, these concept-building questions are suggested as a guideline—not an exact blueprint—for leading students to an understanding of Cavalieri's principle. At the instructor's discretion, additions or omissions that would optimize the experience are recommended.

Concept-building questions for Cavalieri's principle begin on the following slide.
